150 Girls Empowered Through Three-Day Self-Defence Training Camp at KGBV Tapang
Closing Ceremony Held Under Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Initiative

A three-day self-defence training camp organised for girl students concluded on Saturday at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Tapang Part-II, under Borkhola LAC in Cachar district.
The training programme was organised by the Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, Cachar, under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme, under the aegis of the Department of Women and Child Development, Cachar. The training was conducted from September 14 to 16, 2026, with guidance and support from the Police Department and the Wushu Association of Assam.
The closing ceremony witnessed the distribution of Certificates of Participation to 150 girl students who successfully completed the three-day self-defence training programme. The initiative aimed at equipping young girls with basic self-defence skills while strengthening their confidence, awareness and sense of personal safety.
The programme was attended by Shri Kishor Nath, MLA, Borkhola LAC, as the Chief Guest. Among others present were Shri Mujakkir Haque, Child Development Officer, Tapang ICDS Project, representatives of the Gram Panchayat, Anchalik Panchayat and Zilla Parishad, Smt. Jannatara Khanam Laskar, Headmistress, KGBV Tapang Part-II, Smt. Papori De, Warden-Superintendent, along with the school’s teaching and non-teaching staff.
Officials of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Cachar, under the Department of Women and Child Development, Cachar, were also present at the closing ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Shri Kishor Nath spoke about the importance of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative and highlighted the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards the education, safety and empowerment of girls.
He also referred to various initiatives of the Government of Assam under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, aimed at strengthening opportunities for the education, protection, safety and empowerment of women and girls.
The MLA emphasised that self-defence training is only one aspect of empowerment and that education, confidence and self-reliance are equally important strengths for girls. He encouraged the students to dream big, pursue their aspirations and move forward with courage and confidence.
The successful completion of the training programme marked an important step towards creating greater awareness among adolescent girls about personal safety and self-confidence. The programme concluded with a message of empowerment, safety, confidence and self-reliance, reaffirming the collective commitment to creating a supportive environment where every girl can learn, grow and realise her full potential.
The programme was organised under the guidance of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Mission Shakti, Cachar, as part of ongoing efforts to promote the safety, education and empowerment of women and girls in the district.
